the Artist
Like Submariner, Jack Pollock is at war with the surface world, and his unique illustrations bear eloquent witness to this constant struggle.

He was born in Los Angeles but was forced to grow up in, get this, Ironia New Jersey – a town so dreary, hopeless and devoid of interest, that Mr. Pollock is the only person worth noting who came from there.

He has attended many schools; Fairleigh Dickinson University, Portland State University, and the University of Oregon. He got his first real, actual, useful art training at The Kubert School of Graphic Art.

Mr. Pollock started his professional career while still in art school doing souvenir art, then moved on to advertising and show posters.

His big break came when he landed a job in the production department of Dark Horse Comics. He spent three happy years with the DH crew photographing and correcting comic art. It was like being allowed to work in a goddamned candy store. The after-hours sessions at Libby’s Lounge with the DH crew felt like being at the goddamned Algonquin Round Table.

While at Dark Horse in 1992, he created the seminal and influential “Devil Chef”. The first landmark story was printed in Dark Horse’s “Deadline USA” (edited by the equally seminal and influential Chris Warner). After several short appearances in “Deadline”, Devil Chef got his own full length book “Devil Chef: Come and Get It!”

After Dark Horse, he freelanced doing clip art, comics and instructions for model kits. In 2000, he started working with the great Sean Tejaratchi, founding art director for the Portland Mercury and creator of CrapHound. Thus was born Pollock’s phase as an illustrator doing spots, features and covers for magazines and books. It’s truly about the most fun you could possibly have just sitting around on your keester.

Jack has played greasy creeps in the motion pictures “Trailer Park Double-Wide Trilogy of Terror,” directed by Joe Sherlock, and “Astroesque” by Mike “Madman” Allred .

Sorry, ladies, Jack’s married!
Sorry, dogs, he has a dog!
